Saw this in another thread, and it wasn't commented on much.

Ok, GSP is clearly justifying remaining at 170. He's complimenting the other 170 pounders. Dana says he is happy that GSP is going to stay at 170. Enough with the GSP vs Silva talk.

GSP should stay where he is and keep on demolishing dudes. Its not like he's not challenged. He said himself he was not impressed with himself, so there in itself is his challenge : Stop your opponents more decisively. He should move up if he starts to destroy his opponents in the first few rounds. The man himself would agree with me I'm sure.

And he also says he certainly did try to sink those subs in. All this talk of GSP letting Hardy off. Do you know how petty that sounds? Hardy did barely anything much in the whole fight, but the little bits of quality he did show, are explained with: "Oh, GSP didn't want to hurt him there"

Nice to listen to the actual words of the master instead of speculating regards jumping weight or whether he feels sorry for his opponents sometimes. lol.

Yeah I don't know how anyone could think that GSP wasn't cranking on that armbar. It was sunk in very deep and you could see Hardy in visible pain. Same thing with the kimura, many fighters have tapped to less.

GSP isn't some robot that can just rip peoples arms out of their sockets and as we saw on Primetime Hardy is a very strong dude.

I kind of agree with the sentiment that GSP didn't want to break him and I kind of disagree as there are minor technical mistakes that show the reasons he COULDN'T break them. The Kimura was low, had GSP had the wherewithal to step his other leg over Hardy and roll to his back he coul've broken his arm, but it didn't look like he knew that or wanted to do that to lose his position. The armbar was sunk wrong. Hardy's elbow wasn't on GSPs hips. He should've bent Hardy's arm over his thigh since it was so high like that but by the time that looked like it may have occurred to him, Hardy was escaping. Like GSP said, I don't think it's as much his "mercy" as it was his technical mistakes that let Hardy get out. Don't get me wrong, even with those tiny, tiny mistakes any lesser man would've screamed and tapped, they still hurt, but Hardy had the heart to fight through it and since GSP made those mistakes it was the difference between Dan being in a shit load of pain and getting his limbs taken off.

Completely valid point of view. This is one of those things we will never know. Maybe in a few years GSP might admit he took it easy, and I'll be proved wrong. Ive seen Dans arms at the mercy of BJJ black belts in the past and been amazed at how well he can get past it. God damn, he got so demolished in the fight, I'm frankly glad we have a tiny morsel of positives to draw from it as far as Dan is concerned. To tell me those escapes were actually more to do with GSP then Hardy... well, that makes me sad, even though I know it might well be true. So... let me have the couple of good escapes in Dans name please!! Lets not kick a man when he's down. :thumb02:
