OK first, I threw the UFC HISTORY in there because I love the way that phrase gets overused and I wanted to do it too.

Another thread on moving around in weight classes got me started thinking about Roy. He's in a unique position to be the biggest mainstream star yet. He needs the right sponsors. Companies whose products/programs can aid him on his vision quest to defeat gsp and become ww champ.

The possibilities are endless. From Reality tv to spokes/model, Roy could be every where.Everyone from Burger king to weight watchers would want to pay him.

And honestly, who else are you exited to see fight GSP at ww? The list is pretty short. Dana, Roy and all his sponsors could milk it for a year or more and then have the "greatest welter weight fight in ufc history!"

What do you think?

i think if Dana markets Roy properly and he keeps winning, he could be HUGE.

They should keep going with this false Vince/Stone Cold storyline they have right now. With Dana hating on Roy and Roy passing every tough challenge Dana sends his way.

im pretty sure those guys at TUF know what they are doing when they set up entire seasons. They are doing a good job building Country up. Now all he has to do is beat somebody he shouldnt beat (Frank Mir??). He does that, he will be a superstar.

BTW, ppl need to accept Roy is a HW.

Do you really think that is the case? This is a real sport - not "sports entertainment".
they definately edit TUF to make "baby faces" and "heels", dont fool yourself.

they put the show together AFTER they know how makes the finals. it would be naive to think they dont build up storylines that may have been nothing but with the right editing...... Dana HATES Country and Country is a cocky bastard/misunderstood ppls champ, depending on how you viewed it.

Now the UFC can take advantage of that if Country keeps winning.

It is a sport. But it is also entertainment, esp when your talking about TUF.

he carries that 265 on the frame of an average middle weight. He could do it. And it would be huge.
You get freaks like that though - there are guys in my gym built like Nelson - fat guys with stamina and mad power.

There is one guy with ridiculous hooks and uppercuts. Whenever he lands a bad one everyone does Cartman beefcake poses and shouts "pooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwweeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrr".

I think I would enjoy a Roy Nelson reality show about dropping to WW for his VisionQuest fight with GSP. Would it be hilarious? Yes. Would it be awesome? Not at first, but I'd watch it. Do I think he could do it? Shit no, that man loves BK too much!

Also, I used to hate that mofo, but he's growing on me.

Roy is 6ft tall and very big boned and wide....

if it was more then a joke for him to make WW..... give your head a shake.

noobs get fooled because they saw him beside SKYSCRAPER WHO IS 6F10..... yea Roy looked like a little fat midget.

Brock, Shane, Cain and JDS are all around the same height as Roy.

If the belly went i think he would be a good 205r but living a dream world seeing him at MW or WW.

I agree man, Nelson is a freak. He may look out of shape but he is very strong and athletic.

There is no way he could make 170. Even if you got rid of all that fat I think he would still be a very big 205'er.

I think it was probably all a big joke about WW.

I think it could be possible for him to make MW. If he was dead lean, dehydrated and hadn't eaten in days. I think he could pull it off. And if he kept in a state of subsistence his body would canibalize some muscle and it would be easier to drop to MW. It would take a helluva long time and could possibly ruin him as a fighter, but its possible if he wanted it.

Guys, Joe riggs was bigger than Roy in his first pro fights. His fight with nick diaz at ww is one of my favorites. Those who think it's impossible or even unhealthy could probably stand to drop a weight class or 2 themselves.

I think Roy wouldn't be the same fighter if he didn't have the weight. It helps him out to keep people grounded, so he can work for subs. Which is really what Roy will do in most cases, most people have been forgetting that because his last two wins were by ko.

I'd never say the greatest star, but if he can keep finishing fights, he will be very memorable. I think that he's entertaining as well. We'll just see if he can keep up the momentum, or if he'll fade like some of the other fighters that have shaken up things with 2 strong fights in the UFC. He's getting into deeper waters now.
