Sem Schilt returning to the Octagon?

What turned out to be just a joke, now seems to have some major consequences for four time K-1 World Grand Prix winner Sem Schilt.
The Dutchman claimed on Twitter that his belt was stolen from his gym. The biggest newspaper in The Netherlands, De Telegraaf, even covered this story and quoted Sem being very sad because of the theft.

The 'theft' has turned out to be some sort of publicity stunt in cooperation with a big national radio station. So, at least we know the belt wasn't really taken from the 'Hightower', but a chance to win a fifth K-1 World Grand Prix title may be taken away from him.
Representatives from FEG have already stated not to be amused by Schilt's actions. They accuse him of not showing respect to the fans and the prestigious title, and there seems to be a rather large chance that Schilt will not be allowed in the Grand Prix this year.

With FEG still having to pay a lot of fighters, both for K-1 and DREAM, Schilt may not even be that disappointed. From different sources we hear that Schilt's management is already in negotiations with Dana White. Schilt already had a stint in the UFC in 2001, beating Pete Williams by TKO and losing to Josh Barnett by armbar.
The three time King of Pancrase is 26-14-1 in MMA, with 24(!) of his wins inside the distance. And, not to forget, he went the distance with Fedor Emelianenko in PRIDE.

The Golden Glory product lost to some big names in MMA, but that was a while ago. Getting fully focused on MMA again, and keeping his dangerous striking in mind, the 6'11'' tall Ashihara Karate specialist might just pose a threat for some names in UFC's heavyweight division.

What exactly does he weigh at? WOuldn't he have to cut about 40 or so punds to make 265?

I would hate to see him go from k-1. I need more fights between him Badr, Remy, and Aerts.

The only problem i have with guys like Semmy and Pat Barry joining the UFC is although they can put on a show with another stand up fighter, they'll never make it to the top. Im only interested in seeing complete fighters who have the ability to make a run for the title. Use that roster spot for someone more worth like Overeem or bringing Werdum back when the time comes.

Do you realize how thin the UFC's roster would be if they only employed guys who had a definite shot at winning a title?

Not really that excited. Semmy is like the Jon Fitch of K-1. Now if Masato and Badr Hari decided to make the jump, that's something else entirely...

Hope overeem would get the first fight vs Hari in MMA as he should.

you know that Schilt has 10 win via Submission ? he's not slouch on the ground .
with proper training he will be able to survive on the ground . and with his top notch striking , i think he can train fully on his grappling .

Hm what do ya know. Guy really isn't too shabby on the ground. My bad. I really only saw his one fight with Barnett and Fedor in which he got owned on the ground. I guess its not fair to compare him to those freaks.

isn't schilt pretty damn slow now? but anyway, he would be a very dangerous guy to shoot on but if brock or cain got it, then it would be a long night for semmy but he would be a dangerous opponent for everyone.

I think SF are way more likely to get him, since then he could continue his K-1 career like Overeem, would be interesting to see him fight Overeem in a MMA bout, he is one guy I dont think Overeem would want to stand with, but in the past Semmy has been very week off his back so I would think Overeem would win.

I would sooner see Badr Hari or Remy Bonjasky join MMA, especially Hari because of his young age, if he could develop good TD defence like JDS I think Hari could do very.

Semmy Schilt NOT Headed to UFC, Rumor Called "Total Bullsh*t" by Schilt's Management

After doing our best to debunk the previous rumors of Semmy Schilt being UFC-bound Head Kick Legend has gotten the definitive word from Semmy Schilt's manager, Bas Boon, that Semmy Schilt is absolutely not headed to UFC as of right now. There have been no talks with UFC management with the Golden Glory kickboxing dynamo as of yet. When pressed, Boon was quick to comment, "I have good contacts to Dana White and the UFC, but there have been no negotiations whatsoever since me, Semmy and Alistair met Dana in Ireland."

He did add that Jon Olav Einemo is the only Golden Glory fighter at the moment who has had potential talks with the UFC at the moment.

Boon also commented on the K-1 belt hoax, claiming that Edwin Janssen, the "PR Manager" that has been seen being quoted in the whole K-1 belt hoax stories and the subsequent UFC signing stories is simply running Semmy Schilt's myspace, facebook and website as of right now and has made, and I quote, "a mess out of things and blown things out of proportion."

For right now Semmy's sole focus is on taking home his fifth K-1 World Grand Prix title, having a few superfights in K-1 for the remainder of 2010, and after that, well, Golden Glory hasn't decided where else Schilt will conquer just yet.

I think that is bullshit. sure he may have made a bad judgement call but c'mon lying about someone stealing the physical belt from his gym while kinda lame isnt really that bad. i really hope he can compete in the grand prix.

however there are a few fights id love to see him have in the ufc. im thinking jds, carwin or maybe even kongo/barry as an entry fight.

Semmy is a piss poor MMArtist and a boring kickboxer.

He's hardly a threat to anyone in the division, he could probably beat Barry and maybe CC and that's about it.
