Sengoku’s apparent strategy: “Sengoku is strong; we must only wait for Dream to destroy itself, we will become the top Japanese MMA organization by not doing anything.” In a recent broadcast, Sengoku representatives discussed the promotion’s current strategy. The following is my reaction to what they discussed.

As regards the strategy which Sengoku has recently unveiled; can it not be said that the essential nature of their tactics may be summed up as “We can begin now to fortify our guard. Likewise, it is appropriate to expect that Dream will destroy itself?”

Decidedly, it is Sengoku’s ideal that the top fighters shall earn 300,000, 500,000, perhaps 1,000,000 yen (approximately $3,420, $5,700 and $11,400, respectively). Under such conditions, even champions would have to hold a day job, and to pursue fighting as a secondary venture, which incidentally is not unlike the state of boxing in Japan. As regards Sengoku’s chief rival Dream, it would seem that Sengoku’s strategy is to wait for Dream to destroy itself. Consideration of circumstances yields the following summation of Sengoku’s apparent strategy: “even without us trying, Dream will turn to nothing. This will be an effortless victory.” Were Dream to go under, Sengoku would become the number one promotion by default; such is the current landscape. According to two employees of the company, were it to occur that the Ryogoku Kokugikan (Sumo Hall) withdrew its support, Sengoku’s assets (according to prior financial statements) would total just 6,000,000 yen (approximately $68,400). This begs the question if Sengoku’s actions and rhetoric are not merely a result of this reality.

These are my impressions on the current state of Sengoku.

It is smart but completely flawed if they want to be a big deal. Yeah you will become the top japanese organization once Dream crumbles but trying to pay guys so little isn't going to fly when they have zero loyalty towards your company. What is going to happen when Dream goes under is the UFC is going to swoop in and take whoever they want and Sengoku will pick the bones that remain and no doubt add depth. They are keeping their company financially viable and will stick around for a long time but they won't ever be Pride. Being the top Japanese company isn't that big of a deal if it is by default and you are basically equivalent to bellator.

Well the thing about Bellator is that they aren't trying to fight the UFC right away, but down the road they might actually turn out like Strikeforce in that Dana just decides to go after them right away!:(

That was a mutual disagreement of trying to get out of his contract, that wasn't someone trying to sue him over something he said!:thumb02:
