I've been grooming over the MW division today on ufc.com looking for opponents for Anderson. The following are opponents that deserve a shot IMO:
Maia, who has got his shot this Saturday, b/c he's the most dangerous ground fighter and many people believe that the ground game is Silva's "weakness".
Chael Sonnen b/c he has won his last three fights, with the last 2 being over top contenders Yushin Okami and Nate Marquardt
Contenders in the mix at MW:
Belfort, Palhares, Sakara, W. Silva, Almeida
Fighters not in the mix at MW that may pose a threat:
Bisping, Marquardt, Okami
Personally, I do not think any of these fighters stand a chance against Silva. I really wanted to see Marquardt beat Sonnen and get another shot at the title, but it doesn't look like that will be happeneing any time soon.
I guess Sonnen would have the best chance at beating Silva due to his superior wrestling skills, but I see Anderson being able to keep it standing or possibly submit him on the ground in his guard with a triangle or an arm bar.
What I am trying to get at here is that after Maia's chance on Saturday I am wondering what the next move for the spider will be.
Will he continue to decimate the MW divsion?
Will he move back up to LHW for another fight with a contender or possibly a title match with the winner of Machida/Rua?
Or will he move up to Heavyweight for a new challenge?
The fight that I most want to see happen next would be Anderson vs the winner of Machida/Rua. To think that Jon Jones could eventually fight Silva also gets my mouth watering.
Thoughts?
