Anyone swim here? I have been doing some swimming lately because by brother is a lifeguard and because my dad is out of shape:laugh: .
We tread water for a certain amount of time usually keep adding on the time and I am working towards two minutes without using my hands. (I probably can do it now) And doing laps in the pool of the crawl and breaststroke.
It's good for an all around workout.

Well swimming is really good for you. You will get a nice T shape if you do it but personally i think that women who are pro swimmers have bad bodies. But when it comes to swimming you cant go wrong though if you dont use your arms your going to tire yourself out much quicker, i wish there was a pool closer to me, might go swimming myself soem time. If your still growing (wish i was) SWIM SWIM SWIM SWIM

What? I always called it the V shape...

On a different note, swimming is awesome.
IMO, it is the best type of work out there is.

It tests your muscle endurance and stamina due to the resistance of the water. Swimming partically works out every muscle in your body.
Your also cool the whole time even though swimming laps is like running miles.
And I just love the feeling of showering afterwards, sitting down, watching tv and eatting something delicious.
15 minutes of heaven right there.

Oh, and I too also heard it made you grow. I don't see how it would though..

i was thinking the same thing too..how the hell does it help you grow....all i see it doing is giving you a better cardio-vascular strength and endurance.....not making you grow LOL....did you make that up ?

hmmm did i make it up....well, lets say this "most basket ball players are tall" did i make that up? its an observation...waht do they all have in common? they play Lots of basket ball, now if you look at professional swimmers they all have the same forum, perfect T shape, tall slim yet muscular. Watch the olympics you wont see a single person out of that shape, im not sure waht makes you turn out that way...im not an expert but its the same thing with basket ball almsot all of them are very tall and lean, but you can see that a swimmer has a more distinct T shape, swimmers have very very brawd sholders almsot all of them, thought my personal oppinion is that female swimmers look grose but anyways...just take a look at the olympics, if anything il look up an article for you>?:D

I think, as with basketball, people with tall, lean bodies make better swimmers. Swimming doesn't make them taller, taller swimmers just have an advantage over their smaller competitors. Thus, you get more tall swimmers in competitive swimming, and more tall basketball players in basketball.

swimming does help quite a bit with developing good endurance, cardio and overall strength. Depending on what you do with swimming it is useful (especially upper body) because it works out just about everything. Yes taller swimmers do have the advantage because they can touch ppl out in a close call and they have more sweep, but the broad shoulders and relatively lean muscle is all from swimming. It is excellent at burning off fat and gaining muscle. I suggest also doing entire lengths of the pool underwater, this will help your breathing and greatly increase your endurance. Try treading water with a medicine ball/weights for leg strength or if your ambitious and have the pool to yourself throw a few weights to the bottom of the deep end and see how many you can bring up. This are fun little things to break up the laps when they get boring.
