i made a post about takedown defense a while ago, and received a bunch of good info. i was just wondering what your favorite takedown is? what do you think is the most effective etc...?

personally, i'm new to the sport so i'm still trying to get over the whole "i'm gonna bulldoze over you and waste all of my strength in the process." thing.

I like the double leg. We also practice one in the clinch. I'm not sure what is called, but you get the person off balance and the side you have the under hook on you shoot your leg behind theres and take them straight back. You end up in half gaurd most of the time. Matt Serra uses this takedown a lot.

High croch crack down or front headlock snap down. they are wrestling stlye takedowns that i have been using in my bjj classes on guys and no one has really been able to stop them. if you want more about them they pretty easy to explain lemme know.

one question. how come you don't finish the High C off to a double leg? is it easier to defend the guilotine or do you just end up in better position?
ANd what do you do from the Front Headlock? spin behind og try and choke them?

i think the crackdown defends against a guilotine a little better cause your head is a little lower. plus the crackdown puts alot of pressure of the knee joint so its either a broken knee or the guy goes to his but. also i think the crack down gives a better chance at side control. as for the front head lock either way. most guys i think in marital arts wont let yyou get behind as much as in wrestling because in wrestling its only two points in mma it leaves you open for lots of strikes and submission attempts.

the double and single legs are widely abused and people dont know how to properly flow with them. truly mastering a double and single leg take down is really hard because people focus on best case scenarios and focus only on the initial take down. To truly master them you need to be able to adapt to different scenarios and situations that will occur when you go for the double leg.

My fav is the tani otoshi and tai otoshi

You can't stop the person from coming around and getting the back on the front head lock if they know what they're doing;)

If you want my advice go out and play some contact sports. I learnt how to take people to the floor in rugby and american football.
thats true to an extent....i used to play football and i use a trick that i came up with when i played....its kind of complicated to explain...but basically its like you're faking a double leg shoot....and just before u'd grab the legs and he's going to sprawl on you...you shift all your weight to one side so you end up pretty much beside him while he's still sprawling...then its basically a matt hughes style wrestling slam...grab the waist and lift and boom...huge take down....might not work for you...took me a while to get it in football but i've used it and it works really well when i get it down right

takedowns, i ususally dont really initiate it. lots of people go for single or double leg appraches but i can most of the time pull up my knee into their face. that or when they shoot, you can sprawl out and get them into an anaconda choke.

i found out something about the way most guys who havent wrestled finish double legs. they just try to drive straight through their opponent. my advice try just changing angles and driving to the side. i know that sounds kind of awkward but the angle change will really throw off an opponents momentum. it also makes it a bit harder to sprawl away. ill see if i can find a video ofwhat im talking about.
