The people booing are just rich people that are either
A)idiots who dont really know about the ufc(especially the ground game) and just think that silva doesnt deserve respect because they didnt want him to win

or

B)Mad that the main event ended in a short amount of time.

I thought people would actually wildly cheering instead of booing for that spectacular fighting performance by silva

Thats what i think and for the people booing stop buying tickets if you cant appreciate fights like that

Well I think you really have to look at it in a different fashion.

1)Rich was the UFC champion and a great one at that, carried himself well and gave the UFC crowd some really really entertaining fights. That makes him a "hometown" favorite. Plu's he speaks really good english


2)I am sure Sliva was only known to most people as some crazy guy from PRIDE (Japan) Who doesnt speak english and is seen as an outsider.

3) In the end they cheered for the home town boy. However if Sliva improves his english he can start to become much more "media" friendly. Marketing is a different bird in North America. You dont have to be good to be the crowd favorite you have to be media likeable.

If you listen enough at the end when Sliva was speaking at the end they cheered him.

I have no problem with people booing really. Its their choice. Good post though, but like I said its not really a bad thing.

I love how people make their assumptions about the people who buy tickets. I don't blame them for booing. Their favorite fighter lost. No, Silva didn't do anything to boo him for other than beat Rich.

If you go to your hometown football game and your team loses, you boo the other team. It is sports. Get over it. I don't think anyone was booing anyone because they disrespect them. I am sure it was because their man was whooped. I bet if you asked those who were booing, they would agree Silva was an animal:dunno:

They were probably shocked that their "hometown" fighter got demolished in such a quick fashion. UFC audiences are full of bandwagon jumpers. Even at one point, Vitor was getting a lot of praise. But in reality...Dana is trying to make UFC "American-based". So to appeal to the fans, why not have all the champions to be American. But that all changed at UFC 64. Now people will see a different light to fighters from different countries, and will go to youtube and research on Brazilian fighters. Eventually will discover the vast amount of talent in other countries.

Your right most people are "new" to the sport. But that is a GOOD THING. This sport is growing at a very rapid rate. Give it awhile for the people to come around. And yes to grow the sport and make it more popular you have to have home grown talent. Thats just the way it works. People love to cheer for whom they can identify with the most. Most mid western bbq football loving people cant see themselves in a guy from Brazil who doesnt speak english.

Thats why I hope they teach him at least some right away it will bring the crowd around to him in a hurry. Not to worry most people like me are just getting to know the sport, thats a good thing.

People are going to Boo if they don't like you. Fans of a sport aren't going to LOVE every single team, I don't see the big deal.

Good idea. I am still a big noob to MMA, but when I first started watching I would get really bored during the ground parts...but as I watched more and learned the technical side of things, mainly from joe rogan's explenations mind you, I have come to appreciate how insanely hard those guys are usually working when on the ground and I really like it.

Same here, I thought the ground game was a bit lame till one Joe Rogan explained it out. And Chuck Norris, dude Im from the Deep South and your sterotypical remark is BS dude at least for me.Not with that said....
I have my favorite fighters I love to watch and root for them all the time. But I wont go around Booing the other fighter because I dint know who he is or cause I dont particularly like em.Its a matter of respect, and thoes lil pissant rich folk who go around booing need to be escorted out and a real fan put into their seats! They need to realize that MMA is not like other sports,the "real" fans and the fighters have more class than any other sport, going around booing is so f*cking disrespectful and tastless. One man beats another in fair combat he should be respected for his skills and shown that respect regardless. Sorry this is so long, im just a newish fan with a huge passion for MMA!

lol no its not that at all. its just that they loved rich because he was a great champion and a warrior, and to see him get dominated by a newcomer in the ufc is heartbreaking.
