Valentina Shevchenko has reached the top of the UFC flyweight division and since winning the title has not been challenged. Valentina who was already deeply intertwined in her understanding of multiple levels of mixed martial arts has reached an even higher level. Coming into her fights as a huge favorite "The Bullet" has defended her 125lb flyweight title 6 times since beating Joanna Jedrzejczyk in December of 2018. Valentina has dominated for over 3 years now and the public is convinced that Shevchenko is without a doubt great and only getting quickly better.

Who can challenge her? Really? Can anyone?

One person who is up for the challenge is Miesha Tate. Tate who came out of retirement is 1-1 so far in the promotion and fighting at bantamweight. Miesha Tate won the Strikeforce bantamweight title as well as the UFC bantamweight title. However this is a different era and the 125 pound division belongs to Miesha Tate. Miesha recently stated that she might want to go down to flyweight. She also claims she can do it. Miesha Tate believes she can beat Valentina Shevchenko.

Miesha Tate is coming off a loss to Ketlen Vieira a fight where she took a lot of damage. Does Valentina Shevchenko vs Miesha Tate make any sense? Right now no but if Miesha Tate actually loses 10 pounds and dedicates herself to the flyweight division it will start making sense.

Miesha Tate came back as a bantamweight so a lot of people were expecting her to make a run at bantamweight but Tate is an x champion and one who has had some tough opponents over the years. Tate has been in there with a lot of the greats like Ronda Rousey and Holly Holm who she took the title from in 2016 only a little over 5 years ago. Does Miesha Tate have what it takes to climb up a division at 35 years old and do enough to convince Dana White and the public she deserves a shot? We will find out but as it goes not Miesha is talking about flyweight and mentioning Valentina Shevchenko.

What does Valentina Shevchenko think about a potential matchup with Miesha Tate? So far she has not said anything and is just waiting to defend her title for a seventh time. Might we see this potential matchup between two legends and two x champions? Only time will tell and it mostly depends on the success of Tate and if she is really trying to make a run at flyweight.

I said it in the Facebook discussion and I'll say it again here, Miesha needs at least one win to justify a title shot against Valentina.

Would not mind Valentina vs Miesha @ 125.

Taila Santos is another name who could be deserving of a shot.

Yeah at this point Taila Santos deserves a title shot more then Miesha does. Miesha is coming off of a loss and at minimum needs a win before she deserves a title shot.
