A matchup between welterweights Charlie Brenneman (11-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) and Johny Hendricks (8-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) is in the works and will be part of August's UFC 117 event.

Sources close to both competitors told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that verbal agreements are in place and that bout agreements will be signed shortly.

The fight, first reported by MMADieHards.com, is expected to be part of the night's preliminary card, which is expected to take place Aug. 7 at Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif.

Brenneman made his UFC debut and extended his win streak to six fights when he stopped DREAM veteran and fellow UFC newcomer Jason High at UFC Fight Night 21 in March. The AMA Fight Club member, who won the first season of Spike TV's "Pros vs. Joes" reality-show competition, is a former NAIA wrestler who fought throughout the Northeast before signing with the UFC. His lone loss came to fellow UFC fighter John Howard at a September 2008 Ring of Combat Show.

Brenneman now meets Hendricks, a two-time NCAA Division I national wrestling champion and four-time All-American who's made a successful transition into professional MMA.

Hendricks opened his career with a 5-0 mark, which included a pair of wins in the WEC, before he was moved to the UFC. He's since posted a TKO win over "The Ultimate Fighter 7" winner Amir Sadollah and decision wins over Ricardo Funch and T.J. Grant.

The victory over Grant came at UFC 113 earlier this month and ended via majority decision. Despite Grant's point deduction for multiple groin strikes, Hendricks was still ahead on two of the three scorecards and would have earned the split-decision win even without the loss point
I think Hendricks need to get some main card on Fight night . his fights are always entertaining and he got skills to be top 10 WW soon imo . amazing wrestling and his striking always improving . he should take this fight .

Well this is certainly a big step up in competition for Brenneman. I would have to favor Hendricks, but I will be pulling for Brenneman. I know his brother Ben, who taught at my school when the two of them won season 1 of Pros vs. Joes. Charlie also does some of his training in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, which is essentially where I live, so it is awesome to see him fighting in the UFC.

Also, I agree about the card for UFC 117. It's shaping up to be incredible and has quite a few interesting matchups. Here is to hoping that Silva doesn't ruin another main event and leave us with a sour taste in our mouths after what will likely be a great card. I tend to doubt it though, I expect him to cut to the chase and dismantle Sonnen fairly quickly. If not, I'd love to see a few rounds of some Sonnen ground and pound. :thumb02:
