Yeah this fight would at least be a challenge to Anderson. I say make it happen still, and this time don't feed one dimensional guys as replacement if he gets injured.
You know that Vitor is one dimensional right and Anderson is like GSP and Maia combined compared to Vitor on the ground. If you want someone who isn't one dimensional you have to go further down the ranks to guys like Akiyama and Wandy. Really I would rather see whoever wins that fight get a title shot they are just as deserving as Chael and have better overall skills than him.

Akiyama is yet another overrated japanese fighter who could barely make it past his UFC debut without being gifted a decision by the judges. His only accomplishment besides beating a bunch of cans in Japan is subbing a kickboxer. He doesn't belong in the cage with Sonnen or Marquardt let alone Anderson.

And Wanderlei is so far over the hill and so wild, a Wand-Anderson fight would be a joke. Dude is 2-5 in his last 7 fights and you think he's going to beat arguably the best fighter on the planet?

At least Vitor just knocked out two top 5 MWs in the world for his last two fights ... what exactly has Wanderlei or Akiyama done to convince you they're anywhere near the same league? Wanderlei just lost to the guy that Vitor just KOd in less than a minute and Akiyama is only given so much importance because of his Rob Emerson style running joke ... the dude is not a top 15 MW. Don't get me wrong, he's good but not an elite.

Vitor may be one-dimensional, but he poses a big threat to anyone in that dimension, even Anderson. Unlike Maia's dimension, the fight actually starts in his. It doesn't matter what Anderson is on the ground because he hasn't taken anyone down in his life and he ain't starting now... this will be a standup war and Vitor has the kind of speed to knock Anderson's fat head 10 times if he dares to stick out like he did against Maia. Anderson may be more technical, but no one has faster hands than the phenom.

Show me where I said either of them would beat Andy. Akiyama would beat the shit out of Sonnen by the way that is absurd Sonnen has no standup skills or submission defense he isn't a top 30 MW. Andy took down Nate and finished him so it has happened before and if Vitor started besting him he would do the same in this fight. I didn't say I didn't want to see Vitor/Andy either just that he isn't some elite all around fighter he is a really good puncher that is all.

As far as I can recall Anderson didn't take Nate down so much as reversed him during a takedown attempt.

I don't think Anderson has ever in his entire career actively initiated a takedown, and neither has Vitor. I don't see the ground game even coming into the picture.

And point taken, Vitor isn't an all round fighter, but I still think he has a shot. I'd rather see a complete fighter like GSP get the fight too, but that doesn't seem to be on the cards right now.

Also I don't see how Wanderlei is a complete fighter either, he's never subbed (ok one lame RNC on a dazed opponent in 44 fights) or ground controlled anyone in his career, all his GnP has been via stomps. The guy is a pure standup fighter.

He sprawled and hit a switch that is a takedown he didn't reverse a takedown and gain position. Andy is actually really good at wrestling and BJJ there is just no reason to do it when you are the greatest striker ever in the sport and you are fighting guys who stink at striking. I don't expect Vitor to best Andy striking though he is really good at throwing punches Andy is really good at throwing every kind of strike.

Wasn't Vitor a BJJ black belt?
Black Belts you make for yourself at an arts and craft store don't count. He looks like shit every time the fight hits the ground.
