I am in my last year right now. School and work full time is lame but I get a lot of experience while I am doing my degree. I am going more into the network and security side of things. (I'll leave the coding to you nerds :D)
Hows the job side for you guys? From my job hunting, if I had even a years experience it looks like I'd be set for life. A complete never ending number of jobs available for software developers.

@HitOrGetHit so I took your advice and have been kind of applying to everything. LinkedIn's quick apply is a great tool for this too. During college today I get a call I couldn't pick up. No voicemail but the company name is displayed on my phone so I look it up and see one that I'd applied to. Here are the requirements:-

This is an excellent opportunity for a talented Java Specialist/Senior Java developer expert who will be in charge of the End-to-End development of one of our key clients in the Utilities sector.

Key Skills

· At least 4 years of experience in Java solutions development.
· At least 3 years of experience with Angular
· Design/Develop complete modules
· Ability to lead a team of junior developers
· Define and run test cases
· Provide support to the Client during UAT
· Deep knowledge of Angular, HTML, JavaScript, Databases (Oracle, PostGreSQL), Applications Servers/Containers (WAS 8.5/9,Jboss 6.4 EAP).
· Experience of development standards such as code refactoring, design patterns, DDD, TDD BDD, continuous integration, building highly scalable applications, application security.
· Deep knowledge of Java technologies such as JEE, Spring framework, Hibernate, Maven…
· Experience of the full software development life cycle using structured and AGILE approaches.
· Ideally previous experience within a consultancy environment.

Wtf why they phoning me for? At this I assume "Well, maybe it's just a case where they have another role, or maybe it's a rejection call". But nope, I get an email soon after saying "Blah blah I tried calling you. Just wanted to have a quick chat to get a better understanding of this role". Mate I can only just about read your role. I couldn't answer the call cause I'm in college struggling to follow my simple tutorial, and you're calling me about a senior role where I lead a team of people likely more qualified than myself? Huh? Scared about this phonecall back haha

Yeah that happens. Nothing hurts in talking to them though. Worst case is you aren't the right fit for them. They could end up keeping your info on file and contacting you when a different position opens up. In this industry you really want to try and make as many connections as you can. Just remember in an interview, being overly humble doesn't paint a true picture of your skills, but being dishonest about your skills has the same effect, except that one may land you in over your head :D.

Even if you struggle finding a job that will give you that entry level experience, you can try and get some on your own. For instance creating a portfolio of all of the programs that you write in school and all of the things you have done on your own time. It is a way to show off the application of knowledge you have gained, as well as showing your eagerness to learn and progress. You would be surprised at how many employers will overlook certain things to get someone they believe to be motivated and a hard worker.

This place is so inactive that I have the inclination to unban every troublemaker and make the worst offender an Admin, just for shits and giggles.

So, Keith Flint of The Prodigy died, sadly he took his own life. I grew up listening to the Prodigy a young Spite would practice but never perfect the dance moves from the likes of Keith. The Prodigy IMO were instrumental in the development of the EDM scene, its unusual for a Techno group to stay together for a matter of years, never mind 30. The Prodigy are the Rolling Stones of the EDM scene.

I can't put my finger on it exactly, but something inside me died when I heard the news. Maybe its the realisation that I'm not a young man anymore.

Anyways, on the outside Keith had it all, adoring fans, world famous band, fame, money and friends... yet he still took his own life. Who knows what demons were in his head.

If anyone here (those that are left) has such demons and feel that they need to reach out, please speak to someone. Shoot me a PM if you feel you can't. I give you my word, even if we have had beef on the forums over the years, whatever you say will be between you and I. I'm no psychologist, but if you just want to vent then hit me up.

The Prodigy remind me of every party I ever went to growing up, such sad news. God knows what motivated him to do such a thing :(

RIP Keith.

The Prodigy had a massive effect on me growing up and shaped the type of music I listen too.

I'm not really the type of guy who gets into one particular band, there are very few bands where I could put an album on and just listen to it. Prodigy are one of those bands. I prefer their early stuff and later work to 'middle part', but that said, they never released a bad album.

I hope The Prodigy can recover from this, I don't see how the replace Keith though, he's pretty much one of a kind.

Winding down my last full semester of college. 2 more classes in summer and then I am free! It is actually kind of an odd feeling that I am about to be done.

Been watching a lot of "The Girlfriend Experience" on Amazon Prime and can't help but think I picked the wrong job, I'd have made major money in the Escort business....
