it wasn't all that long ago when all of UFC's top hw's were moving to other orgs leaving it pretty lackluster. right now it's probably the most exciting and talked about division.

it's got everything a division needs, you have the experienced veterans of the sport in mir and nogueira. the upcoming and hungry challangers in carwin, dos santos and valesquez. solid gatekeepers in kongo, cro cop and gonzaga. prospects with great potential in Duffee and Struve. then at the top a champion who looks like he could go on to dominate, but unlike much of the other divisions his competition has a good chance of winning.

At this point the UFC doesn't even need Fedor, thats just how good this hw division has become.

I've never been much for putting a exact rating on guys but I expect almost everybody will have some kind of order involving Brock, Carwin, Cain, JDS, and Mir. If you're talking about how it compares to the other divisions I would say its the most interesting to me right now but the average skill level (counting all the fighters) its still the lowest.

1) Lesnar
2) the rest
3) James Toney
I laughed.

The top 4 could be put in almost any order.

1. Carwin
2. JDS
3. Brock
4. Velasquez

5. Mir

Gatekeepers:
Kongo and and Gonzaga certainly seem to be filling this role.

Carwin ahead of JDS due to size and punching power. Carwin and JDS ahead of Brock because, frankly, their resumes are much more impressive. JDS in particular has many more quality wins than Brock (however, if Brock ends up owning this division for five years I wouldn't be shocked).

I have Velasquez at 4 because he's a wrestler in a division with even bigger wrestlers, but he's been equally dominant.

Basically it's an exciting time for the heavyweight division; any of these guys would be a worthy champ.

Yah that sounds about right. LHW division is without a doubt THE most stacked one. The top five can be champs at any given time. They have a revolving door of champs while the other lower weight classes have been almost permanent.

HW is much better now though.

Right after Lesnar vs Mir (ufc 100) it 'felt' to me as if Brock would be invincible for a while (especially cos my consideration of Mir back then was high). Lesnar's earlier opponents (Korean judoka and Herring) were laughable. Couture was his most difficult match to date, and when I look at that match in particular, I can't help but enjoy knowing all 3 (Carwin, Velasquez and Dos Santos) contenders have a good chance at winning that belt. (I do recognize Lesnar as a force of nature in terms of athleticism and I also recognize his wrestling talent - I'm just relieved to see the HW division is stacked with fighters who will give the current champ a run for his money)

HW Rankings - Before/After

I'm curious; how did everyone's rankings for the HW division change after the Carwin/Mir fight? I will go first.

Before
1)Lesnar
2)Cain
3)JDS
4)Mir
5)Carwin

After
1)Lesnar
2)Cain
3)JDS
4)Carwin
5)Mir

Not much change in mine, but I know many people had Mir ranked much higher than I did prior to the fight. Furthermore, I wouldnt be surprised if many people saw Carwin's performance and shot him to #2 or #3 in the division.

The HW division is SO exciting right now!!!!! I want to see an old school UFC tournament with the current HW group. That would be awesome.

I just saw another thread similar to this one. Please delete this thread. SORRY!!
I guess they can be different. The other can rank the division against the others while this one can rank the fighters.

1) Brock since hes got the title
2) Carwin
3) JDS
4) Cain
5) Mir

With a bunch of guys in mid card hell between GG, Nog, CroCop, Rothwell, etc.

before it was
1 brock
2 mir
3 shane
4 cain
5 jds

now its all

1 shane
2 brock
3 mir
4 cain
5 jds

amazing what knocking out the man who has beaten the champion, as well as a man that one other member of the hw div is using as one of his BIG wins will do for shane.

Before UFC 111:
1) Brock Lesnar
2) Frank Mir
3) Cain Velasquez
4) Junior Dos Santos
5) Shane Carwin

After UFC 111:
1) Brock Lesnar
2) Shane Carwin

4) Junior Dos Santos
5) Frank Mir

For sure my favourite division at the moment.

Before I had it something like

Lesnar
Velasquez
Mir
Dos Santos
Carwin

Now I am leaning

Lesnar
Velasquez
Carwin
Dos Santos
Mir

Might put Mir ahead of Dos Santos but I have a feeling we are going to get to see that fight.
