, Alright, I know who he is but seriously, all the talk and coming into 112 has been about Anderson Silva, Demina Maia and BJ Penn. Just BJ though. Frankie Edgar is like the third wheel on this PPV. He is a great fighter and always comes off like a great guy. Thoughts?
I think there are two reasons we don't hear much about Edgar. The first reason is what I put in bold font from your post. Niceness isn't publicized unless your the champ. Look at Rich Franklin - truly humble and a great guy. We all know it because he was the middle weight champ for quite a while. Running your mouth gets you more attention (although, undeserved). I could list names... but I'm sure everyone knows them.
The second reason is that Edgar is nothing new. He specializes in nothing and isn't unorthodox. Thus, he's not really known for anything.
Silva - Best P4P fighter. Phenomenal striker that rarely needs to use his guard. However, he is dangerous from it.
Maia - Excellent grappler. Probably the most dangerous BJJ middleweight.
Penn - The prodigy. One of the best P4P fighters. Great flexibility and very hard to take/keep down.
Jon Jones - Unorthodox fighter. His strikes and take downs will come from all angles. Rising VERY fast.
Roy Nelson - Doesn't look like a fighter at all (he builds this up by rubbing his tummy after every win). Also, the mullet? Lol...
Edgar - Well rounded. Good striker, good grappler.
Because Edgar doesn't specialize in anything, he's not a real threat to Penn. Penn's probably better in every aspect.
Maia, on the other hand, has excellent submissions that can end a fight. Because of that, he has a "submitters" chance.
I like Edgar, I do. I've been a fan of his for a couple of years now. However, he kind of dropped off because he's so rarely in the media.
