Why can't Silva's next fight be a LHW fight?

There are plenty of talented LHW fighters who could challenge him.

Jon Jones could beat him, but Dana will not allow him to fight him so soon.

He wants to fight and retire at middleweight. Apparently, the middleweight division is stacked and he still has a lot of fights left in that class.

Silva doesn't want to fight for the belt at LHW and he can kick pretty much anyone's ass in that division. People at LHW don't want to fight AS, there is no reason to since he isn't going for the belt, and he's MW champion.

Jon Jones could beat him - ya Jones can beat ALL the other LHWs too. Jones is poised to rule the division, he's the most dominant guy LHW has, just not 'tested' and 'ranked.'

Silva said he was willing to fight Rua when asked, he said he was willing to cut to 170 right before Maia to fight GSP - it's Dana White calling the shots.

Anderson won't be fighting again until at least January 2011.

The fight with Vitor was originally scheduled for January 2010.

Vitor awaits.

I can think of at least eight reasons why anderson can't move up to lhw......

1. Damien Maia
2. Alan Belcher
3. chris leben
4. wanderlei silva
5. akiyama
6. vitor belfort
7. nate marquardt
8. chael sonnen

and believe me as he's clearing out the division there will be more and more up and coming guys that deserve a chance

I believe it is his choice. He has stated in a few interviews that he no longer wishes to fight in other weight classes.

Are you compiling a list of plumbers or contenders?
Maia...no
Belcher...lol
Leben....no
Wanderlei...no
Sexiyama...lol
Vitor...agreed
Nate....gotta beat chael first
Sonnen...definitely

With that said I think vitor has a punchers chance at best, nate would need to fight flawless and sonnen might have already gave his best performance. I'd say move up and clear out another division of new faces.

He isn't against having fights at LHW it is just that the UFC doesn't want guys jumping around. Because he went up to LHW a few times they tried to force him to make a permanent move which would be stupid. He already has a belt and two of his good friends and teammates are contenders at LHW. There are plenty of fights at MW I would like to see with him still also. Okami, Wandy, Vitor, Akiyama, and a Sonnen rematch if they can earn those shots. They could still do some super fights with GSP and Shogun at catchweights with him spending the rest of his career at MW.

He does not want to get in a spot where he has to face off against his friend Lyota Machida. Now that Machida is a LHW contender he doesnt want to move up. I think if Machida falls off then Silva might be willing to move up.
