If we were talking about Japanese MMA and Japanese professional wrestling, then there might be a combination, though it's doubtful, since the two are so similar (and have many of the same characters).

The fact is, though, if we're going to have this conversation in the context of the United States, then McMahon is an idiot. Periodically, I watch an episode of RAW or Smackdown, and I've got to say that there are two things that strike me about professional wrestling today.

The first is that they're not even really trying to put out a quality product anymore. The storylines are boring and the characters that are being introduced (for lack of a better word) suck.

If we were comparing the characters from the WWE to the fighters in MMA, I've got to say that the characters in MMA are more interesting, which is shocking, because the characters in MMA are bound to reality, and the characters in the WWE are not.

The second is that MMA produces a more exciting product constantly, not because it's real (though that's certainly one of the reasons I enjoy MMA more), but because the believability of professional wrestling has deteriorated to the point of non-existence.

Oh, and let's not forget that professional wrestling has attempted (badly) to adopt MMA moves to appear more realistic. See The Undertaker, and the world's stupidest gogoplata.

There's a reason that former professional wrestlers are coming over to MMA, instead of the other way around (which is how it used to be).

ProWrasslin' shouldn't be compared to other sports, I personally think of it as something along the lines of goind to a play, going to the circus etc.

It's not an athletic competition, it's an athletic display. Because of this I'll be honest and say that damn I have a lot of respect for some of those guys getting tossed around 250-300 days a year, just a grueling scheduele.

People in that business get consumed because of the time they spend on the road, away from home. And when it the time comes to hang up the boots, a lot of them have a hard time actually doing it. Look at Ric Flair, got the greatest sendoff into retirement possible and yet he only lasted somewhere around a year before coming back (Albeit in another company). And he's a old dude who should be filling the role of grandfather.

But to sum up, i respect pro wrestlers because of the sacrifices they make that the majority of the public aren't aware of. They give huge parts of their lives to entertain and nothing else. Like it or not.

But that's just my 2 cents.

this made me laugh out loud, seriously now folks is the WWE more "sophisticated" than mixed martial arts?

Sure the WWE was entertaining 10 years ago when we were half our age, but get your head out the clouds, how can you compare the fakest show on cable television to the realest sport in the world?

let me know what you guys think
Taking contracts out of the equation, I think WWE is more sophisticated than MMA, as in the WWE, the interviews have to be scripted, the matches contain choreographed fight sequences, they have to work out what dude is gonna spring up from under the ring to smack another with a chair, whilst wearing a skin tight spandex costume chosen by a fashion designer in addition to searching for the best fireworks in the business.

Whereas in MMA, the fighters dress themselves, the fighting is REAL and the talk is REAL, there is a lot less pre-planning involved in regard to the action we see fight night.

Sophisticated yes, more exciting f*** no.

back in the days when hulk hogan was the man thats when wwe was HUGE. now the new thing is mma , its taking over, people try and bash it and talk bad about it so fans can turn to them. mcmahon needs fans so does mayweatherm no fans , no money, if they didnt talk about mma than mma would suck. the reason why they are talking is because they are scared.

Vince McMahon is an idiot. Professional wrestling is like soap operas for Drunken hillbillys. Look at the fanbase to see who is more sophisticated.

I had a trickle of yellow liquid run down my trouser leg when I saw this, since when did the undertaker go from carrying an urn and tombstoning people to being trained in bjj (bad ju-jitsu),lol one positive rep coming your way for noticing sir.

Wrestling sucks. Its a talk show/soap opera more than anything and isn't nearly as entertaining with the fake ass slams and positions and at times when they have like 1 hour long matches. I'm not gonna lie I liked it when I was younger but nowadays you couldn't pay me to watch that rubbish. McMahon is kidding himself.

Just youtubed Undertakers gogoplatas. SMH @ that. McMahon is a friggin hypocrite.

I sort of agree, WWE you have to make things up where as in MMA, things happen. Feuds arise and people move up the ranks. WWE you have to plan all that, plus in terms of travel, WWE is a lot more demanding.

In terms of travel in schedule WWE requires more not really sophisticated tho, in terms of skills nescessary MMA is infinitely more sophisticated.

btw OP, you are talking about the Attitude Era, the greatest period in wrestling history, show some damn respect. get your head out of the clouds? more like get your head out of your ass.

Is it fake? yah. does that mean i cant enjoy it? no. theres a reason the WWE has survived for so long, and only top quality athletes go into it, its tough shit. Ya think when a guy tears his Tricep it hurts any less because he knows where the character hes given to work with is going? i dont.
